“Never doubt that
a small group of
thoughtful,
concerned
citizens can change the
world,
indeed, it is the
only thing that ever has.”
Margaret Mead, cultural
anthropologist.

Organizational
History
and
Mission
Established
in 1967
through
Amended
Substitute
House
Bill
317,
county
mental
health
boards
provide
funds
and
assistance
for
community
based
support
and
services
serving
individuals
with
mental
health
needs.
Counties
developed
boards
that
included
services
for
mental
health
and drug
and
alcohol
treatment
needs;
The
Preble
County
Mental
Health
and
Recovery
Board (PCMHRB)
is one
such
board,
providing
service
coordination
for both
mental
health
and drug
and
alcohol
treatment
in a
rural
jurisdiction.
PCMHRB
is
stepping
up to
this
challenge
each
day.
With a
vision
that the
citizens
of
Preble
County
will be
mentally
healthy
and
addiction
free,
PCMHRB
works
diligently
to
fulfill
its
mission
of
ensuring
that
quality
mental
health
and
addiction
services
are
available
to all
Preble
County
residents.
Evidence
of
Overall
Effectiveness
Since
1988,
the
Board
has
reduced
state
psychiatric
hospitalizations
from 900
bed days
per year
to less
than 400
days, at
a
savings
of $
220,500
per
year.
The
reduction
in state
bed days
is a
direct
result
of the
increase
in
impact
of
community
based
services
and
service
coordination.
