The Preble County Mental Health and Recovery Board hosts two events per year in honor of May is Mental Health Month and Suicide Awareness Week in September. Through our Art Program and Show (see gallery 1) and our Suicide Awareness 5k (see gallery 2), the board and staff hope to reach out to the public to help eliminate stigma, and increase awareness of mental health and substance abuse issues.
Walk to Remember, Walk for Hope 5K
The Walk to Remember, Walk for Hope 5k was initiated in 2010 by Terri Hundley, then a senior at National Trail High School. Terri's family had suffered the loss of a family member from suicide, and Terri wanted to raise awareness about depression and suicide prevention. Since 2010, the Walk has grown in size and support, with several community and business sponsors, walkers and runners, and volunteers. The Walk/run is an annual event the board continues in memory of those lost to suicide in our own community.
