Treatment Alternatives for Street Crime
The Treatment Alternatives for Street Crime is part of the Preble County
Juvenile Court. The program is designed to help youth who have been charged with
non violent offenses. The goal is to help youth make significant changes in
their lives that will reduce their chance of being arrested again as adolescents
or adults. To achieve this goal, the program provides a range of services,
including case management.
During 1995 and 1996, Treatment Alternatives for Street Crime (TASC) continued
to grow, serving youth, 11 to 17, who have been charged with non violent
offenses. The program produced a total of 5,425.15 units in 1996 alone. In order
to help these "at risk" youth, the program provides diagnostic assessment, case
management, drug screens to check abstinence, and surveillance to assure that
youth are meeting the conditions required by the courts. Early intervention with
such non violent offenders assures that these individuals will have a chance to
finish school and learn the coping skills needed to be productive members of
society. In their report published in August of 1996, TASC found that 96 percent
of clients remained or enrolled in school, 64 percent reported improved home
life, 61 percent improved their school performance and 70 percent tested
negative for drug and alcohol use. These statistics indicate the success of this
program in helping youth build new lives for themselves.
